Iran’s Aprin Dry Port officially opened in May 2025, with a block train from Xi’an, China, arriving and unloading at the terminal. The combination of inland terminal infrastructure and rail services provides a new reference point for traders assessing inland distribution, import clearance and onward delivery between China and Iran.
Aprin Dry Port in Iran officially opened on 24 May 2025. According to an announcement by the terminal operator, the arrival of the first block train from Xi’an, China, to this dry port was a key part of the opening event. It marked further progress in connecting cargo origins in China with an inland logistics node near Tehran.
On 25 May, Iran’s Tasnim News Agency reported that the train from Xi’an had unloaded at Aprin Dry Port near Tehran. The report also noted that railway officials from China, Iran, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan and Türkiye had met in Tehran that month to coordinate service arrangements, freight rates and relevant operating parameters.
In supply chain design, an inland terminal connects the arrival of rail freight with local cargo consolidation and distribution. For trading companies delivering to Tehran and surrounding areas, assessing destination terminal operations, cargo collection and final delivery alongside international freight charges can help determine whether rail meets the needs of a particular order. The transport mode should be selected to suit the nature of the cargo, procurement cycle and receiving arrangements.
The arrival of one train does not establish a uniform transit time for all shipments. Before dispatch, businesses should confirm current schedules, cargo acceptance, transit arrangements and destination operating conditions, and ensure that trade documents, payment arrangements and import procedures are coordinated. Providing an accurate cargo description, package count, weight, dimensions, loading location and final delivery address when requesting a quotation helps build a more complete transport plan. The continuing development of China–Iran rail freight provides a practical basis for comparing overland services alongside sea freight.
