The China–Xi’an Kazakhstan logistics terminal began operations in Almaty on 10 June 2025, linking with the Xi’an terminal opened in 2024. The connected hubs provide additional infrastructure for cargo consolidation, distribution and regional delivery between China and Kazakhstan.
On 10 June 2025, an opening ceremony was held for the China–Xi’an Kazakhstan logistics terminal in Almaty, Kazakhstan. According to the Consulate General of China in Almaty, the project links with the Kazakhstan Xi’an terminal in China, creating a pair of connected hubs and adding a new physical node to bilateral logistics cooperation.
Project contractor China Construction Sixth Engineering Bureau reported that the Almaty terminal is located within an existing freight yard south of Almaty II railway station. Its facilities include a general-purpose warehouse, a container yard and rail handling tracks. The terminal and yard cover approximately 92,000 square metres, with an annual design handling capacity of around 115,000 TEU.
The corresponding Kazakhstan Xi’an terminal began operations in Xi’an on 28 February 2024. The Xi’an facility consolidates and distributes cargo, while the Almaty terminal connects with local railway and warehousing resources. Together, they strengthen the connection between cargo consolidation in China and local distribution in Kazakhstan.
For logistics planning, the value of hubs at both ends lies in connecting line-haul transport with handling after arrival. When comparing routes, exporters can include cargo consolidation, loading and unloading, warehousing, container collection and last-mile delivery in a single cost breakdown. Particular attention should be paid to who is responsible for destination terminal operations and which charges are included in the quotation.
For trading companies regularly replenishing stock in Kazakhstan, terminal and warehousing facilities also create scope for phased distribution. Individual shipments should still be planned around cargo volume, delivery address, inventory cycles and actual service schedules. Checking customs documentation and destination collection requirements in advance helps align international transport with local warehousing and distribution.
